Old Xbox network help Bridge?
Hello, I have an old xbox that I wish to connect to my home network I cant seem to get a wireless adaptor for the original xbox. Don't think they make them any more. it only has an Ethernet port on the back so i can use the new one i have on my 360 (USB). I have had a look and people say that I could use a bridge to connect to the old xbox and then my wireless network? Or I could get another cable wireless router and use it Ad hoc connect to the Ethernet port in the xbox?
Basicly, can someone tell me the best way to do this in the cheapest possible way and pref with a product from Scan .co .uk? I'm local to the shop!
Any help for a networking noob much appreciated!

Re: Old Xbox network help Bridge?
Yep - you need a wireless bridge.
This is the one I use with my 360. You will need to plug it into a computer initially to configure it to work with your wireless network, but then it just plugs into the XBox enet cable.

Re: Old Xbox network help Bridge?
Hi Thanks for the tip! I got the Edimax WAP EW-7206APg, now the question is, to set it up with my old Xbox do i set it as AP, Station Ad-Hoc, Station infrastructure, or AP bridge mode. This being that I want to connect it to my Wireless AP downstairs. I can access the configure settings on the Edimax so im ok with that, just what do I set it too, and then what do I set on the xbox?
Thanks lots for all the help.
Confused,

Re: Old Xbox network help Bridge?
Use “Station-Infrastructure mode" and once configured on to the network, you should be able to plug the XBox into it's ENet port and the XBox will grab an IP address from your router.

Re: Old Xbox network help Bridge?
Ok, so I went into the settings of the edimax, selected station inf, clicked site survey, my AP on my PC came up. Selected that and it said connected. Saved the settings, took it upstairs an plugged it into my xbox, went to settings, IP address is set to automatic, went to advanced, selected wireless, it said that my wireless device is not configured?!?

Re: Old Xbox network help Bridge?
No - the XBox thinks it is wired, not wireless. The AP converts handles all the wireless stuff.

Re: Old Xbox network help Bridge?
It 'should' be a case of setting the XBox to Automatic wired connection -

1) Go to Settings of Xbox Dashboard, select Network Settings.
2) You will find IP Settings, DNS Settings and other options.
3) Click IP Settings, you can select Automatic to obtain the IP and other network information from DHCP server or router automatically. If not, select Manual to set IP address, subnet mask and gateway manually.
4) After that, back to previous menu and select DNS Settings. Select Automatic to obtain DNS server information from DHCP server or router automatically, else select Manual to set it manually.

Re: Old Xbox network help Bridge?
Just seen: http://www.wirelessforums.org/wirele...ure-36255.html
It says:
Having a quick look at the manual
1.Station Infrastructure Mode.
2.Same Ch and SSID as your Netgear.
3.Clone the MAC address of XBOX into the WLAN MAC.
Not done stage 3 perhaps i need to set the mac address of the Edimax to the Mac adress of the Xbox right?

That s showing a static address of 192.168.0.100 - not in the same range as the router - normally 192.168.1.0
Where it says static try changing that to either 'automatic' or 'dhcp'.
