NTL modem and linksys WRT54GS dont work at the same time

Hello all.
I have had problems with my ntl modem when i connect my router. when i do i can connect to the network, however the internet on the computer the modem is attached to does not work. and when i disconnect the router is is available again. i have checked all of the leads and seem to be working when tested separtly. i have absolutly no clue as to whats causing this.
Any help would be much appreciated

You have to re-boot the modem each time you change what's plugged into it.

So switch off PC & modem, disconnect PC from modem.
Connect modem to the WAN port on the router, and router to the PC.
Switch on router & modem, then PC, and it all should talk to each other.
