New Virgin Media modem and Actiontec router don't talk

Hello everyone,

Wondering if anyone can help.

Been an NTL/Virgin Media customer since Nov. 2005. We got the three-way package at the time (TV/Broadband/Phone) which is now set to M.

It all worked fine until we moved recently, just a mile up the road. We got reconnected yesterday and have had a few problems. The main issue is the broadband. The engineers gave a new modem. In 2005 we got the Actiontec router for our wireless broadband. There now seems to be a problem getting it to work with the new modem. It can see it ok but it doesn't connect to the Internet.

We had a bit of a problem with it when we first installed it because we're using a Mac as our main machine and the Actiontec people don't have any software for it. The Virgin Media people have been quite helpful in giving us DNS server addresses and talking us through the setting up of DHCP. We've rest the Actiontec router and tried to re-run the install in it with no effect. We've also rebooted everything in sequence as we were asked to.

All in all, it is a bit odd. When the broadband was installed after the move we had no trouble completing the registration process. It was only after that when the problems started. Tecksupport got the DHCP working but since then we've been at a loss.

We called the Actiontec people but they want to charge us $200 for giving us support! For that I might as well buy a Netgear router.

Anyone who has any idea to get this working? Many thanks!
