belkin wireless g router problems

F5D7230-4

My router installs correctly and connects for 2 mins then all lights turn orange, bar the modem light (green), and no internet connection (ntl broadband) is available.
What do I do to remedy? (please no jargon that may baffle me, as not fully clued up on these things!!)
The router was used on old pc and was fine.
Any help deeply appreciated before i've pulled all my hair out!!!

Re: belkin wireless g router problems

Do you get the same problem when connected by ethernet cable to the router?

Re: belkin wireless g router problems

USB as in USB wireless dongle? Or USB to ethernet adaptor?

Re: belkin wireless g router problems

tried usb (on modem) to usb ethernet adapter. used to work fine via any connection i used.

I was wondering if router struggles to find MAC address at all. (not that i greatly know much about this) and if NTL assist in sorting this.

I reset router prior to installing on new pc. I've turned off all firewall to test. I've pinged. ipconfig/all. At complete loss now

Re: belkin wireless g router problems

You say you reset the router, had you cloned the old PC's MAC address to the router when it was working before?

What's the output from ipconfig /all?

Re: belkin wireless g router problems

I didnt clone on old pc.
I reset router just as a measure, seeing as it wasn't working.
Now here's where I show how dim I am with pcs...........what exactly do you mean on "output" with ipconfig? And do you mean output from ipconfig with pc connected to modem, or through router? (as doen't this make a difference if something's wrong??? unsure!)

Re: belkin wireless g router problems

Type ipconfig /all in a command window & report the text that appears...

Do it with the router attached.

Re: belkin wireless g router problems

The crucial issue is the model version of your router. Belkin have released 4 different versions of the F5D7230-4.

Look on the bottom of the router or the box (if you have it). You will see a small white sticker. It will say F5D7230-4uk ver.4000. if it says ver.4000 then your router will have to be replaced, it comes with a lifetime warranty. Go to the Belkin support website and request an RMA giving the symptoms of the problem and stress the fact that it is a version 4000. They will replace it with a new model (version 6000 or alternative model).

Or, if it is under 12 months old, swap it in your shop for another manufacturer. If you swap it in the shop, don't replace it with the same Belkin model for they still have version 4000 on the shelves.
