Dlink DIR615 & Dlink N Adaper DWA140.

My mate has had 50 mb installed today and wants to setup the system on wireless so he can put his router ontop of the cupboard out of the way.

Anyway for some reason i cant get the adapter into N Mode its only operating in G mode 54mb/s.

The router ive even tried to set to work at N mode only and it connects at 54mb/s only.

ive downloaded the latest drivers for windows 7 from D link site, did a speed test on speedtest.net and hes getting around 29mb/s, using an ethernet he gets 47.4mb or there abouts.

Any ideas i can get this to kick into Wireless N Mode?

Not sure about draft-n, but 802.11G routers would only work at the speed of the slowest adapter on the network. Does he have any other adapters connecting to the router or just the DWA140?

Has he got WEP security enabled on the router, rather than WPA/WPA2?

Have you tried swapping the two adapters around ? That way you will know whether it's the adapter/driver or the OS causing problems.

OK - you could at least plug the USB adapter in to the other computer and see what speed it connects at.
