Re: Horse Racing

KEVIN DARLEY, chief executive of the Professional Jockeys' Association, on Sunday expressed his concerns over the amended whip rules introduced on Friday and called for the BHA to make a further review of the permitted number of times a jockey can use his whip during a race - currently seven on the Flat and eight over jumps.

Quote:
Jockeys are still getting banned left, right and centre. I just don't think that these rules are working," the former jockey told At The Races.

Quote:
"The punishments are taking the competitiveness away from the jockeys. They're not acting as a deterrent and we need to look at the rule again."

JAPAN is toasting its seventh Triple Crown winner after Orfevre (Yasutoshi Ikee/Kenichi Ikezoe) became the first horse since the great Deep Impact to win all three colts' Classics with a convincing 2½-length victory in the Kikuka Sho (Japanese St Leger) at Kyoto.
