I take it from this article that the Virgin Media WiFi network, partly based upon using customer's superhubs to create hotspots, is connected to the speed upgrade, i.e. In exchange for using your SH to create public hotspots you get a free speed upgrade.

EDIT:- BTW I got a letter yesterday giving notice of network upgrades in my area and of temporary outages. I'm assuming that this is partof the speed up grade and maybe also that VM is converting all the street boxes to WiFi hotspots too.
