From what i've read, the cable tuner can still technically be used to pick up the FTA channels on VM, although they don't like you doing it for the reasons give above. Not tried it myself.
Was the bypass adapter the same as 'analogue passthrough' that I've seen people mention? I've only ever had digital cable myself.
