Sorry if I'm confusing anyone. By 'Cable router' I mean a black router which is hard wired to my white cable box on the wall and connected to my home PC.
This is not a router. It is a modem.
So lets start again.

From your pc connect the yellow lead to the ethernet port ( the one the blue lead is in now). The other end goes into a Lan port on the router.
(there are 4 grouped close together ).

Connect the blue cable from the modem to the Wan port on the router (the 5th one slightly apart from the others).

Finally start with everything turned off, power up the modem and wait a min or 2 then power up router and pc & laptop.
