I only ever shut down my laptop with Windows 10.
If I use Sleep or Hibernate, you don't get the Bitlocker protection, as the drive is not locked at this point.
Not sure if this is normal or not, but that's why I always shut down.

Besides with an SSD the boot time to the Logon screen is fairly rapid ...
