Lack of apps, freely available on many popular devices, will not determine whether Virgin sinks. it is a pay TV provider and that will determine it's future. Sky has neither Netflix or Amazon and survives quite well, aided by the fact that they also provide a streaming service. VM are not in a position to do that. Adding freely available streaming services to VM is nice, but by no means essential

I don't agree with that assessment, PB. Having everything on one device and being able to search out all content, whether it's on live TV or on demand from Virgin's own system or any of the additional OTT services would make a neat package.

If what you think was true, why would the Roku be such a success? This offers you loads of streaming services with limited pay TV channels and a rubbish EPG. If VM had all these apps, plus a greater range of TV channels and on demand content provided by Virgin, this would be a better service than Roku currently offers.

Don't be surprised if this is precisely the kind of service that Sky will be offering a couple of years down the line via its new IPTV service. This will leave Virgin way behind, unless the company goes for it now.

Isn't one of Virgin's straplines 'Keep up'? VM needs to follow its own mantra.

Sky Cinema is set to rebrand Sky Cinema Greats as Sky Cinema Tom Cruise from Saturday.

We have no idea how long Sky Cinema Tom Cruise will be sitting in port for.

Why distinguish between apps and channels? Surely it's the content that's important, and Netflix has plenty of that.

Yeah but to be fair that is an additional cost to the virgin media customers but channels are included in the package

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin Media TV (2017)

Two months ago 7 months after sky launched uhd

Virgin Media is in no hurry to make ultra-high-definition TV available on its network, according to owner Liberty Global.

But Mike Fries, Liberty Global’s chief executive, insists that the cable networks owned by his company, which include Virgin Media in the UK, are more than up to the challenge, if and when customers demand it.

“We’ve got the spectrum if we need it – as do most cable operators – but I think it’s too soon to tell. People are just now getting used to their big screens. They’ve just spent hundreds, thousands of dollars on these big screens,” Fries told an audience at Cable Congress in Amsterdam.

At present, he said, consumers are not demanding it and content providers are not providing it, “But we’re prepared. Our networks are the most robust in the marketplace. So if 4K becomes something that consumers have to have, we’ll certainly be able to do it. We’ll be in a wait-and-see mode,” he added.
