Just found this https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/safe...rus-rogue.aspx I suspect that is what it is.

l am no expert unlike others on here but that looks like a scam to me Tinky so don't react to it as turn off the computer straight away and when you get back on make sure you have the relevant antivirus softwares up to date on your computer..

It'll be a scam, don't call it, the worrying thing is why is it popping up on your computer, hopefully it is just from a site you clicked on.

If you think you didn't click on anything to make it popup then i would scan your computer using Malwarebytes.

Its not from Microsoft as its too badly written. It would appear likely that you have been infected with something. You do need to do a proper scan of your system with anti-virus software. I presume you do have one.

Thank you all for your replies, as it happens I do have Malwarebytes and did a scan but nothing showed up. Hope it's just a one off. :erm:

I had the same thing last week Tinks it appeared when I tried to download a PDF from Trafford MBC!!!!!

Ran Malwarebytes and also did I deep scan with my Bitdefender and nothing was found by either. Nothing else has turned up and my laptop seems the same as normal.

I think some of these end up being generated as a webpage, rather than as anything on your computer itself - although it's odd that it's on a Microsoft site, as one of the main ways seems to be from compromised ad networks.

I've seen fake Chrome dialogue boxes pop up in the past, but you can tell they're fake as the don't break the page content frame, whereas proper Chrome ones do.

+1, I also use this.

In this case it looks more like a dodgy pop-up from a web site.

Probably a dodgy script on a website. These can subvert your mouse clicks and send you to nasty places. I had one that actually started a "Microsoft" warning message out of the PC speakers

I use a script blocker these days to stop these but many sites require you to allow (some) scripts for checkouts and baskets.
