RUBY WALSH said on Saturday that that he could review the frequency of his visits to Britain after he breached the new whip rules at Aintree - where jockeys threatened to boycott the following race in support of their colleague.

Quote:

Reacting to the ban, an angry Walsh said: “The punishment didn’t fit the crime. I miss a Grade 1 chase at Down Royal and a good race at Cork. If that deserves a five-day ban the game is f***ed."

Quote:

The ban sparked discussions between Walsh’s weighing room colleagues, who were reluctant to participate in the sixth race, with the jockeys only deciding to ride after champion jockey Tony McCoy intervened.

KEVIN DARLEY, chief executive of the Professional Jockeys' Association, on Sunday expressed his concerns over the amended whip rules introduced on Friday and called for the BHA to make a further review of the permitted number of times a jockey can use his whip during a race - currently seven on the Flat and eight over jumps.

Quote:

Jockeys are still getting banned left, right and centre. I just don't think that these rules are working," the former jockey told At The Races.

Quote:

"The punishments are taking the competitiveness away from the jockeys. They're not acting as a deterrent and we need to look at the rule again."

Ruby Walsh unwilling to commit to Poquelin ride

Quote:

RUBY WALSH on Sunday said that the five-day whip ban he was handed at Aintree the previous day has left him questioning the merits of riding Poquelin in Saturday’s Grade 2 Bet365 Charlie Hall Chase at Wetherby.

Quote:

"I'm facing a ten-day suspension next time I offend. I didn’t offend on purpose yesterday and I won't offend on purpose ever again, so every ride I take from now on in the UK has to be extremely calculated. It has to be worth the risk."
