Car free Bank junction praised by cyclists... but drivers brazenly flout ban

http://www.standard.co.uk/news/trans...-a3545041.html

I am certain that members will argue about this. But the ban at Bank in London for traffic ban in favour of Cyclist. Is totally wrong and the only people that will make anything out of this is the City of London in fines.

I look at it this way. I cycle. BUT, l have seen stupid cyclist on the road, going through red lights. No proper gear - its endless.

And cyclists want to take over the road - totally senseless.

Bank, in London is one of the busiest junctions in London. And l should know l have driven through it.

And now all that will use it are Cyclist and Buses. Taxis cannot use it.

Cyclist cannot have it both ways. If you abide by the law, then there would less accidents on the road.

Don't cycle between vehicles, if they are pulling out. Don't go through red lights. Don't cycle on the footpath etc etc

I know of a nasty accident in West London a couple of years ago. The female cyclist went between railings, and a lorry turning left. The cyclist was killed, as the lorry driver didn't see the cyclist.

Councils (like London) are ruled by members of the anti car brigade.

This is just one of many examples (Nottingham is classic for this).
They spent a ton of money screwing up a perectly good dual carridgeway to make a "cycleway". You will be lucky to actually spot any cyclists on it, total waste of money, and now you get rush hour jams, as what used to be two lanes is now one.

I support the vehicle ban. I think there are plenty more places for vehicle restrictions too.

It's all to comply with EU pollution targets. Fail to comply and you get fines, and by you I mean of course Joe Public.

This is a unique junction so I would be careful from drawing too many inferences from it. It is a very busy and complicated junction in the heart of the city, there are cars coming form multiple directions and cyclists alongside them. The problem is anyone who is unfamiliar with the layout can suddenly do something unexpected and, again, it's very busy.

All of which begs the question where's the traffic going to go now? Nobody in their right mind drives on C. London for fun so the traffic, pollution and inevitable accidents will just be moved somewhere else.

Ditto many other cities, they are just moving it all elsewhere, and away from the fixed pollution monitoring stations.

I think down Lower Thames St, Old Street, London Wall etc. Although they wouldn't mind too much if they use the surrounding roads as this specific ban is designed to calm this specific junction down. The other roads aren't nearly as dangerous.

I don't believe that to be so. As Damien has said, this is a complicated junction; routing it through alternatives with different road configurations is not moving the problem, it's a sensible re-distribution whilst a much broader re-think takes place.

Traffic volume saturation has made central London a death trap. More change will follow. Better to consider what changes must take place by necessity.

they aren't important they aren't generating tax by walking, you need to look at the bigger tax revenue picture if it's not generating tax it's just a burden or blight on society .;)

It's a vicious cycle in more ways than one.
