Ram speeds OC

I bought a Mobo bundle from scan last year and it came with 8 gigs of ram OC'd to 2133mhz

If I were to buy the same ram to make 16GB will the new ram automatically clock to 2133MHZ or will I have to manually clock the new ram to the existing ram speeds?

Possibly as it is OC'd in the BIOS. Easy to check using CPU-Z

Re: Ram speeds OC

There are two meanings to RAM OC:
1. The RAM is overclocked above it's normal speed - I'd be surprised if they did that
2. The RAM is higher speed, and is supported by an overclocked chipset - very common

On my system I have "DOCP" DRAM overclock profile, to allow the Phenom II 965BE to run the 1600 RAM at 1600 instead of default 1333.

Adding RAM may cause it to drop back to standard profile, so the option may need resetting - for Intel, the term is usually XMP - extreme memory profile

this is the motherboard I have

It does have XMP setup I think and UEFI profile as the 4690k cpu is 3.5ghz standard but has been OC'D to 4.6ghz turbo

Look on the box for the ram and see what the make and model number is, put the model number in here, and we can tell you if it's been overclocked or more than likely just had XMP enabled in the bios.

The model number will be a long number and look like this: CML4GX3M1A1600C9

That model number relates to a 4Gb stick at 1600mhz CL9

Which is this stick of ram: https://www.scan.co.uk/products/4gb-...9-9-24-xmp-15v
