Yes it was a great match and l am even more certain now that it is just a matter of time before Murray wins a grand slam.

You wonder if he can, Djokovic wasn't at his best for large periods of the match but yet managed to dig in and get the result against Murray. He may always be in Nadal's and Djokovic's shadows.

Sadly I have to agree. Nadal and Djokovic have that winning mentality and although Murray can compete on talent, in my opinion the other 2 have a slight edge in mental attitude.

Victoria Azarenka outclassed Maria Sharapova in the Australian Open final to lift her maiden Grand Slam title and become the new world number one.

The 22-year-old Belarusian marked her first major final with a nerveless display, coming through 6-3 6-0 in an hour and 22 minutes on Rod Laver Arena.

Three-time major champion Sharapova could not live with her opponent's pace, variety or unrelenting intensity.

The result sees Azarenka replace Caroline Wozniacki in the top ranking.

It was the first time since the 2009 Australian Open that the number one spot has been decided by the outcome of a Grand Slam final

Sharapova was woeful. So many unforced errors, rarely seemed to be able to take control of a point, seemed to be just hit it at Azarenka at times when he wasn't under pressure. Azarenka on the other hand just grabbed everything that came her way, commanded every ball, competed for every point.

Not a great final.

Yes one of the greatest finals there has ever been and commiserations to a graceful brave loser as well.

Eurosport has renewed its long-term partnerships with the French and US Opens by signing new rights deals to the tennis Grand Slams.

Under a new agreement with the Fédération Française de Tennis (FFT), the French Open will remain on Eurosport for three years, from 2012 through 2014.

The US Open will stay on the pan-European sports broadcaster through to 2017 after it agreed a deal with the United States Tennis Association (USTA

I'm pleased with that, Eurosport do some great coverage of tennis. Only place to see Australian and French Open tennis nowadays.

I just hope that they can do a deal for the US Open, as SKY never seem to do a good job of tennis. In my opinion anyway.

Maria Sharapova savours French Open win over Sara Errani.

Maria Sharapova says winning the French Open was a bigger achievement than claiming her first Grand Slam at Wimbledon as a 17-year-old in 2004.

Sharapova beat Sara Errani in Paris for a first major since career-threatening shoulder surgery in 2008.

Rafael Nadal beats Novak Djokovic to win seventh French Open.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/tennis/18395750

Quote:

Rafael Nadal won a record seventh French Open title after ruthlessly snuffing out Novak Djokovic's comeback to win 6-4 6-3 2-6 7-5 in a rain-affected final.

Nadal resumed leading 6-4 6-3 2-6 1-2, but his uncharacteristic wobble late on Sunday had fuelled Djokovic's belief.

The Spaniard broke back in the first game of the day however, and then piled pressure on an unsettled Djokovic.

The Serb finally folded with a double fault to hand Nadal an 11th Grand Slam.

Good. Hope he loses his match fee and it's donated to Falklands veterans.
