IP range question

I have restricted the number of IPs that my Asus RT-N66U router can use.

IP Pool Starting Address - 192.168.1.2

IP Pool Ending Address - 192.168.1.40

My question is can I change the Ending Address to 192.168.2.40 and move home automation to the 192.168.2.x range?

Re: IP range question

In principle, yes you can but you will need to change the subnet mask to be 255.255.252.0 (I'm guessing you are using the default class C mask of 255.255.255.0). This will give a usable range (address space) of 192.168.0.1 to 192.168.3.254.

I assume that the Asus will allow you to use such masks in the DHCP setup.

Re: IP range question

you could also set an exclusion to your dhcp scope to allow you to set the home automation statically on the devices
