VETERAN HANDLER DUNLOP TO RETIRE.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Thu

Quote:

Veteran Classic-winning trainer John Dunlop is to retire at the end of the current Flat season, the Arundel handler has confirmed to Press Association Sport.

Twice winner of the Epsom Derby with Shirley Heights (1978) and Erhaab (1994), Dunlop, 73, also saddled three St Leger winners in Moon Madness (1986), Silver Patriarch (1997) and Millenary (2000).

Other big wins on his roll of honour include three 1000 Guineas winners - Quick As Lightning (1980), Salsabil (1990) and Shadayid (1991) - and two Oaks winners in Circus Plume (1984), Salsabil (1990).
CAMELOT TOPS LEGER NINE.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Thu

Quote:

Eight rivals stand in the way of Camelot as he bids to become the first colt since 1970 to land the Triple Crown in Saturday's Ladbrokes St Leger.

The unbeaten son of Montjeu is the sole representative from Ballydoyle after Imperial Monarch and Monday's Galway winner Chamonix were both taken out of the Doncaster Classic. There is another challenger from Ireland, though, in the shape of Tommy Carmody's Ursa Major.

SUNDAY SILENCES SCEPTRE RIVALS.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Fri

Sunday Times (22-1) showed a devastating turn of foot to win the Japan Racing Association Sceptre Stakes at Doncaster.

Peter Chapple-Hyam's filly finished second in the Cheveley Park Stakes as a juvenile but had shown little this season.
WILD WINNER IN PARK HILL.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Fri

Quote:

Sir Henry Cecil's Wild Coco (7-4 favourite) followed up her win at Goodwood with a gutsy success in the DFS Park Hill Stakes at Doncaster.

In a race known as the fillies' St Leger, Wild Coco looked a bit short of speed as the Queen's Royal Ascot winner Estimate kicked three lengths clear under Hanagan.

However, as they entered the final furlong the pack was closing, headed by Tom Queally and Wild Coco and she looked to be just getting going close home, showing that stamina really is her strong suit.

DUNLOP SECURES FAIRYTALE TRIUMPH.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sat

Times Up gave the soon-to-retire John Dunlop an emotional victory with a superb performance in the Stobart Doncaster Cup on Town Moor.

Dunlop announced on Thursday he plans to bring his long and illustrious training career to an end when the curtain comes down on the current Flat season in November, and Times Up has been one of his stable stars over the past couple of years. He was 5-1 to land this Group Two prize.
CERTIFY FORCED TO FIGHT.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:

Certify was made to pull out all the stops to keep her unbeaten record intact in the Barrett Steel May Hill Stakes at Doncaster.

Winner of a Newmarket maiden before landing the Sweet Solera Stakes at Headquarters, Mahmood Al Zarooni's filly was the 4-6 favourite to give Godolphin their third straight victory in this Group Two test.

Mickael Barzalona played the waiting game, but when he pulled out to challenge, his mount quickened smartly. However, the hot favourite had a persistent threat in the William Muir-trained Purr Along and after a lengthy battle, Certify just managed to get on top to take the spoils by a head.
DONCASTER HONOUR VETERAN HANDLER.

Veteran trainer John Dunlop was honoured by Doncaster racecourse on Friday afternoon as he prepares to retire at the end of the current Flat season.

The Arundel handler, who took out his licence in 1966, numbers 10 Classic winners on his illustrious CV - among them three St Leger winners at the South Yorkshire track in Moon Madness (1986), Silver Patriarch (1997) and Millenary (2000).

Here are my tips for today and although l think Camelot is a cert to win the Triple crown l have suggested a horse at a good each way price for the St Leger as well.

Doncaster 1.50 St Moritz,
Doncaster 2.25 Tha'ir
Doncaster 3.00 Picabo
Doncaster 3.40 Camelot but a reasonable e/w horse would be Encke at 33/1
Doncaster 4.15 Foxtrot Romeo
Doncaster 4.50 Hoarding
The Curragh 6.05 Aiken
The Curragh 6.40 Dawn Approach

DAWN DELIGHTS IN CURRAGH STROLL.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sat

Quote:

Ante-post 2000 Guineas favourite Dawn Approach made it five wins from five with an impressive success in the Goffs Vincent O'Brien Stakes at the Curragh.

Stepping up to seven furlongs for the first time and also sporting the Godolphin blue, the Jim Bolger-trained colt passed his stablemate Leitir Mor a furlong and a half out and cut down early pacesetter Flying The Flag at the furlong marker.

The race - registered as the National Stakes - was over from there and despite wandering slightly, Kevin Manning's mount (2-5 favourite) streaked clear of the running-on Designs On Rome, who ran a huge race in second, to win by four and three-quarter lengths. Leitir Mor was third.
DOC FLASHES HOME IN PORTLAND.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sun

Quote:

Doc Hay got up on the line to deny Face The Problem in a terrific finish to the Ladbrokes Portland Handicap at Doncaster.

Daniel Tudhope brought David O'Meara's five-year-old (20-1) from the rear of the field with a tremendous run down the near side to snatch the spoils.

Kieren Fallon seemed to have timed his challenge to perfection on Face The Problem, but had no time to respond to the late surge of Doc Hay, who got the verdict by a neck. Secret Witness was a length and a quarter away in third, with Barnet Fair fourth.
HANNON STRIKES WITH LIBRANNO.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Sun

Quote:

The Richard Hannon stable completed a Group Two double at Doncaster when second string Libranno took the OLBG Park Stakes.

While Strong Suit again disappointed, it was left to Libranno (16-1) to do the business to give Kieren Fallon compensation for his narrow defeat on Face The Problem in the Portland.

Lethal Force and Soul set a strong pace which Libranno quickened off to win by half a length from Pastoral Player, with Lethal Force four lengths back in third and Strong Suit only fourth.

Moonlight grabs Moulin prize.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Mon

Quote:

There was to be no further major success for Godolphin over the weekend as Moonlight Cloud denied Farhh an elusive Group One in a furious battle for the Prix du Moulin at Longchamp.

It was the fourth time in a row that the likeable Farhh had been forced to settle for the runner-up position in a top-flight race after shaking up Nathaniel in the Eclipse and failing to deal with the small matter of Frankel in both the Sussex Stakes and Juddmonte International.
Shareta shines in Vermeille.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Mon

Quote:

Shareta ran out a convincing winner of the Qatar Prix Vermeille at Longchamp to give trainer Alain de Royer-Dupre his seventh success in the Group One race for fillies and mares.

Once Christophe Lemaire sent the Aga Khan-owned four-year-old into the lead early in the straight, the race was as good as over.

She quickly put daylight between herself and her rivals to win as she liked, following up her victory in the Yorkshire Oaks.
Orfevre stakes Arc claim.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Mon

Quote:

Japan's Triple Crown winner Orfevre advertised his Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe credentials with victory in the Qatar Prix Foy at Longchamp.

Aventino acted as a pacemaker for the Christophe Soumillon-ridden winner, but he did not go much of a gallop, and Andre Fabre's Meandre and Sir Michael Stoute's Fiorente were both pulling furiously in the early stages, with Joshua Tree sitting just behind the pace.

When Orfevre quickened he soon put the race to bed and Meandre stayed on to take second, with Joshua Tree not beaten far in third.

CANADA FAVOURITE FOR MOON TRIP.

Sir Michael Stoute's Sea Moon would only run in the Prix de l'Arc de Triomphe at Longchamp next month if the ground were to come up soft.

TORONADO SET FOR DONCASTER RETURN.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Mon

Quote:

Toronado is likely to wind up his juvenile campaign back at Doncaster in the Racing Post Trophy after taking the Champagne Stakes on Saturday.

Connections of the Richard Hannon-trained colt look like opting for the Town Moor feature on October 27 rather than going for the Qatar Prix Jean-Luc Lagardere at Longchamp earlier in the month.

SEQUENCE SET FOR WINTER BREAK.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...=&sub=&day=Tue

Quote:

Main Sequence looks like being put away for the season following his effort in the Ladbrokes St Leger at Doncaster on Saturday.

The David Lanigan-trained colt could only finish fifth behind Encke after being slowly away in the final Classic of the season. However, he has done connections proud, finishing second to Camelot in the Investec Derby, winning the Lingfield Derby Trial and taking runner-up spot in the Great Voltigeur.
MUIR HEADING ALONG LONGCHAMP ROUTE.

Purr Along could go to France in search of Group One success following her narrow defeat at Doncaster on Friday.

Trainer William Muir is looking at the Prix Marcel Boussac for the filly after she just lost out by a head to Certify in the Group Two May Hill Stakes over the straight mile.

SHARETA TEAM EYEING ARC IMPROVEMENT.

Quote:

Alain de Royer-Dupre is confident last year's Arc runner-up Shareta will return to Longchamp a stronger filly next month following her course-and-distance victory in Sunday's Prix Vermeille.

The daughter of Sinndar beat all bar runaway winner Danedream in Europe's premier middle-distance prize last October when she was a big outsider, and appears to be coming good at exactly the right time as she landed the Yorkshire Oaks prior to collecting her second Group One prize at the weekend.
HAWKEYE CHASING SPRINT DOUBLE.

http://www.attheraces.com/article.as...e&sub=&day=Wed

Quote:

Jim Goldie is praying for decent ground to improve Hawkeyethenoo's prospects in the William Hill Ayr Gold Cup on Saturday.

Having landed the Stewards' Cup mat Glorious Goodwood last month, Goldie is hoping for a sound surface as he felt the ground cost Hawkeyethenoo his chance 12 months ago when he could finish only 10th to Our Jonathan.

In his last race it was a tardy start that proved his downfall in the Betfred Sprint Cup at Haydock.
