MMA

New thread for 2014 then, merged the title with MMA.

First bit of news for this year is huge.

Amir Khan Has Signed Contract to Fight Floyd Mayweather
Floyd needs to sign but this looks good.

News on Anderson Silva after a possible career ending injury at UFC 168. It was originally thought that was it, however it appears it'll mend quicker than first thought but the issue remains the will to return to the octagon and the mental side of it, would anyone else want to throw a kick again after what happened? that will certainly mess with the mind of Silva. Weidman dropped him in the first which is again surprising, I refuse to say Weidman is amazing because he's not, we'll see Vitor Belfort destroy the kid inside a round, Vitor recently knocked out Bisping, English fighter known well to be an amazing striker and has great cardio and a heck of a chin on him.

As for Silva, he's got the Pacman syndrome, he's completely lost the ability to fight all of a sudden, he looks slow, poor and not the Silva the world praises.

Onto women then, at first I was skeptical about allowing Women into the UFC, but Ronda Rousey has changed my mind, amazing talent in a young woman to win numerous bouts via armbar and it really is superb stuff to watch.

We'd all want to see it but this is merely groves attempting to bait Froch. Won't work either. Froch has little intention of getting back in the ring with this lad. Groves can only get better whereas Carl can only get worse. I'd bet on groves making less mistakes and either outclassing Froch on points or knocking him out.

Let him chase Ward and lose again. Retirement will follow.

David Haye will headhunt the winner of Bermane Stiverne vs Chris Arreola

Both guys are bum fighters at best but somehow managed to land themselves in a fight for the Vacant WBC title. It's like letting Audley Harrison and Derek Chisora fight for a World Title.

Haye will likely decimate the winner as he looks to get Wlad into the ring. We finally seen Wlad get deducted a point for his shoving and wrestling last time out so who knows, if Haye gets a decent ref and lands a sweet one on the chin. If not then Wlad will just wrestle him and lean on him for the entire match.

UFC 169 Card (Stand Out matches) Saturday 1st February or 3am 2nd Feb (UK)

Stripping titles means nothing now as boxers simply care little for titles but more so for the money involved. Does Mayweather want a) a world title or b) £50 Million. He'd fight the non title fight for the money I can assure you of that. If Froch is still in pursuit of Andre Ward then this ruling is even more hilarious considering there'll be a title on offer anyway, it makes no difference if Froch goes in with a title or not.

A better ruling would be ''Rematch within 90 days or face a 1 year suspension'' Hopefully then we'd get past this nonsense over ducking madatory challengers and get rewarded with the fights we deserve to see. Naturally you could bend the rules for legitimate injury or other personal problems.

Froch is still holding all the cards and this is nothing but an ego boost for Groves to rant about on Twitter.

Wembley, solely for the roof option. Again Groves is only getting better as Froch naturally hits a decline from now on in but still Froch was always incredibly average, it's his warrior mentality that made him a champion, he has awful defence and medicore skills but he's still near impossible to put down. We seen something spectacular last time out, Groves completely levelled him, Froch was out on his feet and it was worse than the Jermaine Taylor knockdown. He can ill afford to let Groves land these punches but again it's Froch we're talking about.

Groves having learned something takes a TKO or points win.

Groves getting ahead of himself TKO loss.

Mayweather has been annoying me and he's no angel either he'll lie as much as he needs too. Check out his Superbowl bet. He bet on the losing team. Removed his post and picture then released a statement denying it ever happened. If you ask me the vote meant nothing.

Re: Boxing/MMA 2014

Dear lord, Adrien Broner is the most overrated pile of crap I've ever seen. Kid acts like Mayweather... Minus the millions, minus the skill. Definite glass chin on him too.

Khan destroys Collazo in Vegas! WOW! Perfection.. His speed didn't die down till round 11 and Collazo just couldn't touch him. Adrien Broner wanted Khan? Haha forget that mate. He'd have been wiped out tonight. Virgil Hunter has had a year to drill Khan and he's done it. Dodgy chin? Good luck hitting it to find out. Collazo found nothing but Khans glove all night.

Khan vs Mayweather. Make it happen. After what's arguably Khan's most dominant win of his career I actually believe Khan WILL trouble Floyd. He may not win but he'll give Floyd problems he's never seen before. Khan's the fastest in the division without a doubt. Forget Bradley because this lad is ridiculously quick and accurate. May vs Khan has to happen. The Master Tactician against the Agile accurate lightning puncher!

Re: Boxing/MMA 2014

Froch actually ended British middleweight boxing right there and then to be fair. Good result for Froch but a bad result for British boxing. Froch can't take out ward and based on what wwe've seen then neither can Groves or DeGale. If Groves can't improve then he's going nowhere. He'd have taken froch to the cleaners if he didn't enter that ring the sameway he did last year. Froch must have thought it was Christmas. Experience prevailed in the end but poor training and preparation cost Groves. The element of surprise had Froch obliterated last time. You simply can't go in there after months and expect the same. Froch calls it quits and we're left with not much to take in.

British middlweight boxing isn't dead. Far from it if you look at the bigger picture. Froch has just created history. Groves never looked good enough to create history then some. Khan is a complete article, Virgil has sorted him, He destroyed Collazo with ease, if anyone is going to take out the money machine, it's Khan. Khan is britain's best boxer by a long shot in this era. Champions such as Froch and Haye more recently will never possess the skill set this lad has. Glass chin? Nah not really, Garcia dropped Lucas too. Khan just got too cocky and he's near enough unbeatable when he sits back and fights to a plan.

Mayweather and Khan is another pacman saga all over again, I'm already resigned to accepting it's just not happening. Give a British lad the speed of Khan, the power of Haye and the chin of Froch and you've got a monster.

Re: Boxing/MMA 2014

Khan isn't the complete article imo. He has been hit with some unlucky blows, no doubt about that but he does have a glass chin or should I say he hasn't got that extra bit of strength to handle blows needed to be the complete article.

Khan will make Devon Alexander look silly. This is a waste of time in my opinion. Mayweather needs to step up. I've never once tarnished Mayweather but this is getting silly now. Seems really off to me that the three fastest punchers in the division can't get anywhere near him. Those being Pacman, Bradley and Khan. Khan arguably the faster and more accurate than the other two.

Mayweather has an undeniable perfect career and reputation that in his mind isn't worth risking for either fighter. Whether people believe it or not Amir Khans speed and accuracy is the only legitimate threat to Floyd. Floyd might show his defence can cope but there's a reason he's never tangled with a guy that fights at khans pace.

The UFC decline continues elsewhere though. Anderson Silva might change that though. Almost a year since his horrific injury.

adzii_nufc 14-12-2014 04:16

Re: Boxing/MMA 2014

Khan up now! Let's go.

Alexander's already in massive trouble, taking massive quick shots, then goes back with a disgusting rabbit punch which is seen by the ref and completely unpunished. Now Khan's turning his back at every opportunity. commentators had the cheek to call this 50/50. It's brutal stuff, Alexander is like a rabbit in the headlights.

Hope you're watching Mayweather.

Destroyed, Dela Hoya thinks he can trouble mayweather, Paulie thinks he can beat him. Mayweather to duck. Khan is complete, Khan to be P4P King.

Khan vs Brook appears to be off. Khan vs Cotto appears to be on.

Tired of boxers staking claim to a fight they have no right to be in. Brook needs to fight guys with a name and reputation before he starts throwing his hat on things. He has a knockout punch but not one that's good enough to put Khan down. I'll stick to what I've seen and know, Khan would dismantle him just like he'll dismantle Cotto. If Mayweather still refuses to enter a ring with him then I'm seeing Manny all over again. You can't duck prime fighters then take them on 5 years down the line when they've had it.

Brook beats Jo Jo Dan, stakes claim to Khan. Ridiculous

Brook needs to fight in the USA against top fighters before you stake claim to a boxer with the skill and PPV backing of Khan.

Mayweather or nothing, I still believe Amir Khan is the only boxer in the world that will beat Mayweather. Given Mayweather's style and how long I've pondered over this fight, Khan will and should dismantle Mayweather. Controversial but Mayweather has never fought a guy like Khan, his counter punching world best strategy simply will not work against Khan.

If Mayweather fails to knock Khan out then he loses, It's that simple.

Mayweather will avoid Khan though as he's already doing.

5 years ago If someone had told me Khan had a claim to be the P4P king of the world, I'd laugh, I did laugh but I'm no longer laughing, this guy has sorted his issues out and is the complete thing. Glass Chin is long gone, you have to hit him cleanly to put him down.

Devon Alexander should tell you himself, https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kR8bBk5MnfU

Brutal, that's arguably the second best counter puncher in the division behind floyd being completely dismantled. There is no defence on the planet that can avoid punches from Khan, not even Mayweather.

If Brook vs Khan goes ahead, Khan will dismantle him too. It will be so one sided and Brook won't have a clue what's hitting him.

These days I don't even think Manny could drop Khan, 5 years ago he'd have blew him away in one, but today meh

Re: Boxing/MMA 2014

If he goes after the rematch then he's going for the easy payday and retirement. Boxers and pundits alike have spoken about the Khan match and said he wouldn't risk it. Manny fell into mayweathers plan and then fought at the pace mayweather set, silly from a guy like Manny. Khan is far too fast and too accurate for Mayweather to employ his typical defensive strategy. Khan won't be waiting around to be countered these days. He's got arguably the best defensive trainer in the world and that shows on hunters two fighters, the other being Andre ward.

Maidana got punches in and he's a sloppy fighter, Manny rocked him early but never pursued it. Khan can fight at lightning speed for 12 rounds. If he schools algeiri the same way he did Alexander and Collazo, we'll be in for the actual fight of the decade with Mayweather vs Khan.

Amir Khan vs Chris Algieri. 3am (BoxNation)

Pointless, what more can be said? How this guy made it into the ring with Manny, only to then put up one of the most one sided and hilarious fights in recent times is beyond me.

Khan wins, Points or TKO. It's not even close either, landslide this, embarrassing.

Joshua is furthering his 13-0 career by calling out David Haye. Some great balls on a guy that's never taken a power shot yet. I don't think his team would be daft enough to let Haye get anywhere near him this early in his career. Joshua on his back and the tears following. Tired of boxers using someone far superior to get their own name in the papers.

Re: Boxing/MMA 2014

Anthony Joshua is brutal, he has so much potential it's ridiculous, if done right you can bet you're looking at the future undisputed heavyweight champion of the world, better than Lewis in every single way.

He needs to get the right trainers and promoters at the right time and we may just see Heavyweight boxing get its revival after so many years. He's going at the right pace at the minute, majority of his opponents are journeymen and I'd like to see him take gradual steps and erase the mistakes that Hatton, Froch, Groves and so many other British fighters make. Hatton being that he fought 30 second rate fighters and threw his hat in the Vegas ring with Mayweather and was taken to School, Khan tried the same thing and managed to keep his career alive and learn from it. Froch is a warrior, but he lacks skill in my opinion, can't be knocked out but couldn't touch Andre Ward if he tried. Groves is the best example for this.

Joshua recently called out David Haye, fair play to the lad, he's hungry and excited and so was George Groves. Problem being is it either goes your way or ends in tatters, Groves got Froch on a night Froch thought he was way better and nearly paid the price, Groves had an excellent power punching trainer in Adam Booth whom he then dismissed. Groves went into the rematch having improved nothing and Froch dismantled him. Groves' career is now in free fall having lost on the Mayweather undercard.

The above is entirely relevant to Joshua because not only would Haye flatten him with a right hand, it'll destroy Joshua's hype before it's really begun, it's a fight that can just never happen for the sake of British boxing. There's too much of this at the moment and whilst it serves the excitement of the British public it really doesn't serve British boxing at all.

Kell Brook is doing this now, He's got Hatton written all over him, he's throwing his hat in the ring with Khan and Mayweather and he has no right to be doing so. Brook has zero fights of any interest and isn't a bad fighter, but you just can't step up the same way Hatton did otherwise you're going to end up being floored in Vegas the same way Hatton was and you'll be quickly exposed a second rate fighter that's spent so long fighting bums you have little or no real skills to utilise. Khan at this stage of his career would obliterate Brook, he couldn't knock him out but he'll run circles around him all night and make him look like a training dummy, that's what Khan does and there's bigger punchers than Brook that couldn't get anywhere near Khan.

This year then to end out on.

Khan vs Manny. First off though, Khan has to choose between his boxing career and social life, one fight a year doesn't cut it and Virgil has been outspoken on this too. I think this is a great fight, if Khan can survive and outpoint Manny then he's up there and I don't even think a retired Mayweather could dodge him any longer.

Brook vs Chaves, somewhat of a step up but nothing major, more importantly is the fight after, Brook vs Bradley is a good potential fight against a Khan like opponent and probably a little risky but he has to start somewhere, should he beat Bradley whom is similar to Khan then I feel Brook will deserve the credit he currently gets and could move on to the bigger Vegas fights.

Joshua vs Dillian Whyte, Good fight this against an undefeated albeit a knockout bum specialist like David Price.

I think at some point you've got to give Joshua someone with a solid chin and let him experience the second half of a fight. Still though, I want to see this lad rise and become the face of Heavyweight boxing, preferably wiping that idiot Fury out on his way.

David Haye set to announce comeback: http://www.skysports.com/boxing/news...anthony-joshua

Unfortunately it appears to be legitimate this time and he hasn't took Joshua's call out as a joke. This is silly, if this fight happens it's exactly why the Heavyweight division is dire, Haye could easily talk himself into the ring with a Number one contender and then take on Wlad again but nah, typical.

Roughly how many months between a fight for MMA people? I know Ronda Rousey is fighting in November, I'm trying to figure out when her next fight will be after that. I know it will be in 2016 at some point.

Too many factors.

Personal
Division
Injury
Opponent

I.E Heavyweight Champions literally fight once a year if you're lucky whilst a Light Heavyweight Champion will go twice or even three times, that's the division factor.

With Rousey I figure 2016 is a two fight year given the 3 already this year.

I'd go with June and November.

If a 3 fight year, Feb, July and December.

A lot is dependent on other women's matches

Keep an eye on Conor McGregor too, typical Irish gob on him but simply brilliant, he's bringing back the hype they created when Lesnar signed.

Decent Promo for him: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ku9X4A03q_4

The sport in general just keeps getting bigger, I'd like to think Foreign tv deals (Setanta/ESPN/BT) combined with Lesnar and the simple fact, there's no constant dodging in MMA, you fight the contender. Title fights are not cherry picked, they're all elite top level fights.

Gennady Golovkin vs. David Lemieux

Tonight/Tomorrow morning

33-0 (30 KO's) The most brutal knockout artist in Middleweight history. It's no wonder Froch just slipped away. If this guy made the jump he'd have flattened him. Lemieux is pretty much Lucian Bute, this is going to be another knockout for GGG.

adzii_nufc 18-10-2015 05:13

Re: Boxing/MMA

Absolutely brutal. GGG has to step up and steamroll Andre Ward or talk Froch into an absolute battering. Forget Floyd, this guy is the P4P king and future Super Middleweight champion. The excitement this guy brings to the ring is worth the 5am haul.

If anyone goes for highlights you'll see one of the most one sided fights in boxing history.
