What happened to BBC3 capacity on Freeview?
Apparently, nationwide capacity on Freeview is now full, bar a few hours in the night.
I know that the BBC3 HD capacity was used to launch Channel 5 HD, but does anyone know what happened to that of BBC3 SD? |
Re: What happened to BBC3 capacity on Freeview?
It just shows an animated slate (if that makes sense!) Saying words to the effect of 'Cbbc returns at 7.00am'

Not much spare space there:

Re: What happened to BBC3 capacity on Freeview?
If it timeshared with CBBC, then surely the capacity would be there for the off shift - why didn't they launch a part time BBC1+1?

Re: What happened to BBC3 capacity on Freeview?
I would have found BBC1 +1 useful, but the BBC Trust blocked it as it was said that it might impact the commercial channels.
All that happens now in the event of a recording clash is that I prioritise BBC1 & 2 simply because there aren't any BBC timeshift channels and the commercial channels take second place because they do! |
Re: What happened to BBC3 capacity on Freeview?
I think the BBC Trust consider the widespread availability of the iPlayer on most TV's & devices negates the reason for any additional (& expensive) time-shifted services

Re: What happened to BBC3 capacity on Freeview?
Timeshift channels can't cost very much, especially if there's spare capacity doing nothing.
I wonder if Ofcom will take a different view? I doubt it as they're more used to dealing with the interests of the commercial channels. |
