10Meg - Not on my router!! :-(

Got upgraded yesterday to the 10meg service. Called customer services and a great lady on teh other end upgraded me.

The problem I have is this, I've got my modem (HTL HOME200) plugged into a Belkin Wireless Router (F5D06230). How when I run my connection through this I only get a maximum of 3 Meg down but 0.5 Meg up. If I run my machine direct to the modem I get full 10Meg service.

Anyone got any ideas why this might be happening??? I would like the full service on my router, I'am going via a wired connection.

Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

Are you sure that the router model you gave us above is correct 'cos googling doesn't find anything on it.......

Couldn't find anything on the Belkin website with your model number?
Going to belkin USA, found a firmware update page, link here:
http://www.belkin.com/firmware/#2

But, be very carefull DON'T apply it, as the last digits differ to yours, maybe best to call belkins main support numbers, 00-800-223-55-460 or better still, 01933-352000, and seek full advice before you do anything.

i wouldnt apply a US firmware to a UK router unless they tell you that its ok. I did that to my Linksys and had all sorts of problems with my print server

when you ran it through the router was it hard wired?

Sorry, been watching TV, how time flies!!

Yes it is a direct wired connection to the router. yes, I've downloaded the latest firmware. yet it still eludes me why this is happening.

Thanks for the responses guys, appreciate the comments!

I suspect that the WAN port on your router may be set to 10 mbit half-duplex.
Last night I swapped my Netgear RT311 router to a Buffalo because the RT311 would only support 10 mbit half-duplex.

The Buffalo (cannot remember model no. off the top of my head) supports 100 mbit full-duplex, but was only configured 10 10 mbit half-duplex until I changed it.

I think that this might be your problem too.

Beardsley: That seems to be the common consensus talking to the network guys in the office, they've also said that the four ports for the LAN connection might be a basic hub and not a switch, so this would cause issues as well!

Time to look for a new router!!! :-(
