Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
I'm really confused by Virgin's strategy with broadband speeds.
At the start of the year they were offering Superfibre 50 for £32.25 per month. Then, just 4 months ago, they made a big song and dance abut 'ultrafast' Vivid 100 being their standard entry-level speed. But now they have introduced Vivid 50 (originally as a budget product) at £33 per month as their basic speed. Where is the logic in any of that? I get the impression they just make it up as they go along. |
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
VIVID 50 is only available on it's own or with a phone line.
If you take or upgrade to all three services, you'll have VIVID 100 as the minimum. |
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
4.7% price increase this autumn will affect up to five million households
Customers with Virgin broadband, phone and TV plans will see their bills rise by £3.49 to £3.99 Broadband only and broadband and phone customers will see their bills go up by £1.99 to £2.99 In a statement, the network also announced the arrival of three new packages this autumn, including the 'Full House' plan that allows customers to bolt on Sky channels to their package. Prices start from £15 for Sky Cinema, £25 for Sky Sports and £35 for both. http://www.mirror.co.uk/money/virgin...-hike-10910471 |
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
Have Virgin Media actually posted anything on its official forum yet about the rise? a couple of the national papers are picking it up now
|
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
Not sure if this has been posted yet, but This is Money, has a list of how each Virgin Bundle is going to be affected by the coming November price rises:
http://www.thisismoney.co.uk/money/b...rice-hike.html Looks like my Mix Bundle is going up by £3.99. |

Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
Guys, I been with virgin media broadband for over 7 years I always been a very low usage user around (200-300gb) each month.
In the last two years my broadband prices keep on going up and up I'm fed up these days I just download 24/7 for the whole month just to annoy them atleast I get my monies worth. My last four months usage has been April 8TB May 18TB June 12TB July 11TB 200mb broadband |
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
You wont annoy VM, just the other unfortunate people sharing your local network.

Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
As far as l am aware VM have increased prices FOUR times in the past eighteen months - l am certain someone will clarify this.
Yes, companies put prices up. BUT, not in the time period as VM.# Sadly, at the end of the day. Its US that end up paying for it. Have VM increased its channels. I don't think so. The BB is totally rubbish. My BB is very slow, and when l have approached them about this. I am told by the terrible CS dept. that VM do this to slow the service down. |

I currently have the full house bundle TV XL 200Mbps BB Phone talk weekends (never use it) 2 x V6 boxes Hub 3 Cost £83.50 with a £3.99 rise on the way making it £87.49 from October or November |

Drop the TV service and go to Freeview/Freesat augmented by streaming services - Netflix, Amazon Prime, NowTV and the free YouTube. I basically get no use out of my TV package and have been meaning to drop it for ages. This is a good reminder for me to do so. |

However, it might be worth seeing what VM bring out this autumn - might be some decent stuff at last. Or not. |
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
I suspect that rather than get more money from customers, Virgin Media may well get less as customers start looking at ways to downgrade their packages while hanging on to those elements they are really interested in.
I'm on a full house package with a Tivo box and considering dropping to the next bundle down which I think is TV Mix. Just wondering how much I will save and if I qualify for a V6 box. Also wondering if it would be possible to upgrade from my current 150 Mps broadband to 200Mps and still pay less than the £95.42 I am paying now. |
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
Can anyone confirm that this rise is a get out of your contract free situation? I don't want out just checking if i can legitimately use the 'thinking of leaving' to barter.

Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
This might be the case. BUT, some customers will stay with VM and say its value for money.
I cannot see VM justify the price increase, with NO additional channels worth watching |
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
I think it's going to be Vivid 50 on it's own for me then down the line, I've got all 3 services at the mo on a contract that started back in November last year so this will be a good time to junk the TV and phone (which I don't use, no handset even ...)
One the one hand I'll be paying slightly more a month, but I'll be saving the yearly phone line saver payment ... swings and roundabouts eh? |

I can honestly say i never care about the price rises other than them enabling me to get a decent deal each year. I'm surprised at how annoyed some users seem to get about them on this forum considering most if not all of them do the same. Outrage on others behalf i suppose. already on a sweet deal that ends in September, time to get another ;) |

Cons: Initially missed some of the Tivo software features Lost BT Sport (though I rarely caught a live game anyway) Lost inclusive mobile minutes (though use our own mobiles instead) Pros: Sky Q box performs much quicker than the Tivo box I had Gained Sky Cinema (I make a lot more use of that than I did BT Sport) Saved around £20 per month. So much for getting better value by bundling your services with one provider. Which reminds me, it's time to start the annual haggling games with retentions! I would have switched broadband away too, except I can't get a BT line without digging up my driveway. |

Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
Haven't been offered anything decent so far.
£46 for the player bundle on 12 month contract £48 for the player bundle with 30 day rolling contract £38 for 100mb on it's own. So pretty much just the normal non-discounted prices. Also told me i'd have to pay a penalty if I downgraded from a bundle to 100mb on it's own which i've never heard of before. Hopefully the next person when i call back later will offer something better. |

Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
VM send out a letter/email one month before price increase so 1st Oct this time. They know how to play the game, so you really have to be sure what the competition are offering. I don't think they do the ring back after you told them you want to quit any more. Ask for the last day of your billing cycle and payment date if you want the best deal. VM aren't interested in your business these days, just choose the best deal you can find.
Link; http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/uti...-customer-tips Remain calm and try not to insult, it's a game to VM, it's your money. |

Virgin Media will attempt to head off customer anger at its latest price hike by offering customers a series of 'targeted service enhancements' UK managers will be working to avoid a repeat of those losses (after last years price hike) by offering the majority of impacted customers package boosts such as speed increases, customer premises equipment (CPE) upgrades and additional TV content.

I told him thats what I was fed up with, ringing up every 6 months negotiating a new deal with another 12 months contract ! Meanwhile I rang sky after seeing their variety package was on offer for £25 a month for 18 months. She offered me the next package up, which is the box set bundle for the same price (£25) I havent got a dish up or I would have gone freesat now, so my plan is, keep the virgin broadband, bin the phone and tv, go with the sky box set for 18 months and when thats ended go freesat |

Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
Got round to calling back to get a different person this morning. When i called a week or two ago they offered :
£46 for the player bundle on 12 month contract £48 for the player bundle with 30 day rolling contract £38 to drop down to 100mb on it's own. This morning she gave me : £44 for the player bundle with no contract extension (currently about 6 months left) +£70 account credit so that brings it down to ~£38pm over the year. Not as good the new customer deal which is £34.66 including the activation fee for 12 months but i'm pretty happy with it considering the no contract extension. |
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
I presume you discussed what no contract extension or being on the same contract means for the November price increase?
I suspect you will have to pay it??? |
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
Nope, she specifically said i wouldn't be affected by the price rise now.
|
Re: Virgin Media prices are going up again...
I didnt know but I do now, that there`s a team above the retentions dept who can offer bigger discounts and deals. I`ve already given notice to bin the tv package and landline and just keep the broadband. I`ve already arranged for sky installation on their box set package and this guy rings this morning and offers me the package I was already on for £43. That was full house with a V6 box 100mb bb and the phone and guaranteed no rise for 12 months. I told him too late, sky will be around next week. He`s gave me the phone and 100mb package for £35 for 12 months which I`ve took. I did tell him if they`d offered me that in the first place I wouldn`t have bothered with sky.

It was only a few weeks ago they were offering all that with 2 V6 boxes for £90/month for the 1st 12 months on a 12 month contract.
