I haven't even seen it Mick, is it worth a watch? I'm a bit like General Maximus on these things.

I enjoyed it from the first episode - It was a time warp back to the 80's for sure as that is what era the story is set in.

It is really really good if you are into your nostalgia like I am. Wynonna Ryders character did my nut in in season 1 and they did a great job of showing why in the honest trailer.

I can't recommend it enough. If you haven't seen it pick a day now while you are off over Christmas because you'll want to watch season 1 in one day....................................and when you have finished you'll thank god that you don't have to wait for season 2 and you'll either stay up all night watching season 2 or save it until the next day.................................so set two days aside now.

A bit of a tease for you. My new issue of SFX has come through the door and got me excited. More often than not I am disappointed with the covers because I expect something big to be on it for the relevant month like The Avengers and they go and put something like Red Dwarf or Dr Who on it instead which don't do anything for me at all.

I posted this trailer a few months ago in the TV Schedule but in case you have missed it here it is:

Re: Stranger Things 3 coming July 4th 2019

yup, I was the same. I didn't watch season 1 when it aired because I was too busy with other stuff and I heard nothing but good things about it. About a month or so before season 2 aired last year a friend at work was absolutely hyper about it and came running up to me wanting to talk about it because she assumed I would have seen it. After listening to her go on and on about it I came home and watched all of season 1 across two days. I am glad I was able to binge watch it because it is so good that I don't think I could wait a week between each episode. I thought season 2 was even better than season 1 and I couldn't wait for it once I had seen season 1. I remember having a whinge back in January when they announced the season 3 premiere date because I hate being teased. I have had to wait 6 flipping months!

Re: Stranger Things 3 coming July 4th 2019

Finished it last night. I really wanted to binge watch it and stopped myself. I forced myself to watch one episode per night to keep the goodness going and it is killing me that it is over. I wish there were twice as many episodes and they did a 16 episode season. I thought this season was excellent and loved how the core story has developed plus what they did with the characters. In terms of my realism factor, the Mall was amazing.

Yeah that was fantastic, it is a great song to sing along to and i had the biggest grin on my face when they started singing. They built it up so much that i was cringing at what they were going to do but it turned out perfectly.

Loved it, I'd say it was even more entertaining than the first 2 seasons. Also thought the nods to all those classic 70's 80's and 90's movies were neat.

I couldn't resist. I am racking my brains and I can confidently say that out of all the tv episodes and series I have seen this year that that is my favourite scene (and I am including GoT in that as well).

Its nothing special, just a (short) rendition of Never Ending Story.

Personally I could quite happily skip it, I dont care for musical spots in any show.

Re: Stranger Things 3 coming July 4th 2019

the thing which makes it so great though is that not only is the song and performance so good but the way the other characters react to it as well. I was happy and smiling for Dustibun and Suziepoo and laughing at the rest of them.

Re: Stranger Things

I am going to have to go back and watch it again because I thought they killed him off.

Chris 16-02-2020 00:11

Re: Stranger Things

He was standing next to a device that had the potential to connect back to the location of the USSR’s own Upside Down experiment in Siberia, when it blew up. There was a post-credit sequence at the very end of the last episode, back in Siberia, where they had a captive demagorgon, and the dialogue makes reference to “the American”. So the means to transport Hopper out of harm’s way was there, and the conclusion suggested he had in fact survived.

From a production point of view they’d have been daft to have killed him off, and they clearly know how bankable he is as he’s the subject of the one snippet of footage released so far. It was the right call if my kids’ reaction to the teaser is anything to go by.

The fact there was no body shown, indicating he could have been sucked through the portal. As well as the post credit scene in Russia, indicating they had an American captive, was enough for me to suggest he was alive

General Maximus 17-02-2020 19:29

Re: Stranger Things

cool, I thought it was a strange move to kill him off because he was a main character and such a good one at that. The series definitely would have been diminished in his absence. What will be interesting now is to see whether he portals back or has to do it the old fashioned way and fly :) I wonder if Eleven's power evolve and she can beam him back.

Likewise. I watched “Super 8” with my boys the other week, said to them it was the inspiration behind Stranger Things, and it really was. They lapped it up. It filled the Stanger Things gap.

So if you have kids that like ST, that haven’t seen it, point them in that direction.

As a rule, Netflix dont do weekly releases.

Chris 20-02-2022 09:15

Re: Stranger Things

AFAIK they don’t do weekly drops of their owned content at all. They only do it where they have international rights to something that’s being dropped weekly by its home network in the US (like Snowpiercer is at the moment).

I know but the way they are dropping Stranger Things in two halves over the dates they have specified pretty much works out to one episode per week.

Re: Stranger Things

I think i will i retain some measure of consistency in watching the season. Having already waited 2 years, it is going to kill me watching 4 or 5 eps and really getting into this new season and then having to wait an additional month for the rest. It will be torture. Now i am thinking about it i think i am just going to wait till the second half comes out in July so i can watch them all in one go. It will tough because everyone is going to be talking about it but i think it is going to be the best way to watch it. It is great being able to watch them at your leisure. You think "just one more ep" and then you get to the end of the episode are like "omg i need to watch the next one".

Here's the timings of each episode.

EPISODE 1: 1hr 16min
EPISODE 2: 1hr 15min
EPISODE 3: 1hr 3min
EPISODE 4: 1hr 17 min
EPISODE 5: 1hr 14min
EPISODE 6: 1hr 13min
EPISODE 7: 1hr 38min
EPISODE 8: 1hr 25min
EPISODE 9: ~2hr 30min

Paul 23-05-2022 13:15

Re: Stranger Things

Wow, so even the shortest one is over an hour, and episode 9 is as long as a Marvel Film !

TBH, I dont exactly understand why they have done this, surely they could have just split it into slightly more (shorter) episodes.

Overall, it was pretty good, and tied right back to explain a lot of the beginnings.

Nicely set up for the final season (2023 I assume).
