I feel sorry for the jockeys at the moment. It must be so hard to keep track of how many times you have whipped the horse in the final furlong when you are going stride for stride for a win. Surely they should be some common sense if a jockey uses the whip 8 times instead of 7?

l think thats a excellent idea but the trouble with the horse racing authorities is they are not that forward thinking chris but certainly looking at all these whip bans in the last few days the jockeys will have to adapt very quickly or further heavier bans will follow.

Belgian jockey Christophe Soumillon has lost about £50,000 in prize money and been given a five-day ban for flouting the new whip rules. He was punished after he struck his mount six times in the final furlong as he won the £1.3m Champion Stakes on Cirrus Des Aigles at Champions Day and l do think there will have to be a bit of give and take on both sides before everybody is happy with the new whip rules.

THE BHA review group announced major changes to the controversial whip rules on Friday morning in a last-ditch effort to fend off the threat of strike action by jockeys.

Quote:

Riders will not lose their riding fee if they get banned for a whip offence and will forfeit their prize-money percentage only if receiving a suspension of seven days or more - up from three. Therefore a jockey who uses one more hit than allowed will not lose their prize-money percentage.

Quote:

The five-hits edict in the final furlong/after the last obstacle has been dropped, although the limit on strikes remains seven times in a Flat race, and eight over jumps.

RICHARD HANNON jnr accused racecourse officials of treating British trainers like "second-class citizens" after a row over work access to the turf track erupted at Churchill Downs, leaving British trainers furious at the disruption to their runners' Breeders' Cup preparations.

Quote:

Hannon jnr, speaking to richardhannonracing.tv, added: "It is an absolute disgrace, and I now know why my dad won't come to America. He has always been a good judge and he won't have the Yanks at any price - and he is dead right. It has cost us £120,000 to bring Strong Suit to America, and we have been treated like second-classcitizens.
