Thinking of upgrading from VIVID 200 Gamer to VIVID 300

So I'm currently on the VIVID 200 Gamer package because I do some streaming on Twitch and I want to do some uploads to YouTube in the future but I was thinking of upgrading to VIVID 300 because the extra download would be useful.

According to this page VIVID 300 also doesn't have any traffic management on upload or download:

https://help.virginmedia.com/system/...agement-policy

but I was wondering if there were any other reasons why I shouldn't upgrade from VIVID 200 Gamer to VIVID 300 if I play a lot of online games and stream on Twitch and upload videos to YouTube. My main activity time on the internet is in the mornings and early afternoons if that makes a difference.

I was offered quite a good deal if I do upgrade so I'm very tempted to do it.

Thanks for any help.

All it will increase is your download, from 200 max, to 300 max.

Upload remains at 20M, and Vivid 200 Gamer isnt traffic managed either.

Do you really struggle with 200M download ? Seems unlikely to me.

Well the extra download would help and I've been offered an upgrade for less money so I could save as well by going to VIVID 300.

It is just whether it has any restrictions on it that might effect YouTube video uploading and Twitch streaming that worries me.

The Gamer 200 and 300 services are not in the broadband traffic management policy. This will ONLY kick in if you upload stuff 24/7. I do a fair bit of streaming each night 4/5 days, 3/4 hrs and to YouTube my self at different times of the days. I have not been hit by the traffic management system yet.

You will probably get 332Mb/21Mb because VM allow generously for overheads.

Re: Thinking of upgrading from VIVID 200 Gamer to VIVID 300

Well equally, hes currently getting 220/21.

The point is not the exactly figures, he'll just get a D/L boost of 50%, while the U/L will remain the same, both have no traffic management.

Re: Thinking of upgrading from VIVID 200 Gamer to VIVID 300

Seems like Virgin Media have completely removed their VIVID 200 Gamer package from their website. I wonder if that is because people were using too much upload and download bandwidth and the whole no traffic management thing was causing problems.

None of the current packages mention no traffic management which is important for me when Twitch streaming in prime time. I don't want to be traffic managed on upload while streaming to Twitch or uploading YouTube videos.

Been reading the other threads and might just wait for VIVID 350 to come out and upgrade to that. Would be a nice speed boost.

Re: Thinking of upgrading from VIVID 200 Gamer to VIVID 300

Hmm they changed that on the sly! I looked into it more. Only VIVID 300 has no traffic management! This only applies to new customers only from now on. As I am on VIVID 200 Gamer still and in contact (as upgraded from 150mb).

Those on Gamer tier will remain free of traffic management both upload and download. I had this confirmed last week by someone in retentions.

So far as understand it, any other tier INCLUDING VIVID 300 will now be subject to STM on the uploads.

Gamer 200 was the only one to push no traffic management as a feature on that tariff.

Guess I'll have to stick with my current package then. The only thing that would make me upgrade would be faster upload but I would like faster download as well.

So is the traffic management for vivid 300 only on the upload only or the download as well according to the below page there is no traffic management

http://www.virginmedia.com/shop/broa...vid-gamer.html

I would be interested to know what the limit is before you get traffic managed

As far as I'm aware there's no traffic management at all on Vivid 300 and above.

Gamer 200 has been made redundant by Vivid 300 and, indeed, 350.

It's very confusing, because VM have contradicted themselves on their website (again). On this page it says VIVID 200 Gamer and VIVID 300 are exempt from upstream - or downstream - management.

However on this page, VIVID 300 is explicitly listed as being subject to upstream management. So, who knows?

unfortunately it will be the later. Up and till last week 200 gamer and homeworks were exempt from upstream traffic management so if 200 gamer is no longer available and a new entry has been made somewhere that now states homeworks is managed then the most recent update/information is going to be the most accurate and correct.

Not entirely redundant, its still slightly cheaper, and its the upload I'm more interested in, not the download.

Quite. It doesn't mention VIVID350 though, so I'm assuming I'm good for now. :devsmoke:

From what I can see in my area Gamer isn't sold anymore, and Vivid 300 is at the same price point Gamer was previously - a 5 quid supplement on top of Vivid 200. Pretty redundant if it's not being sold anymore and a faster service at the same price point has taken its place.

Not really. Gamer you could do unlimited uploads (like Twitch streaming or uploading YouTube videos) at peak hours and not get traffic managed. That is no longer the case with 300 or 350.

As I said earlier I think I'm going to stick to Gamer for the long run even though I could do with the faster download as well.

Just been on webchat and to upgrade from 200 gamer to 300, was going to be an extra £12

I'll try again later and see what price I get this time.

Where does it state that? 300 appears to be managed from what I can see. Only 200 gamer and 350 are missing from the wording suggesting that they are the only two plans without restrictions.

Edit: Its missing from the wording, but the main page for the 300 package suggests it has no upload restrictions. Seems it's just the usual VM with a conflicting website.

300 and 350 aren't managed.

The thresholds page only covers packages that have traffic management.

As VIVID 300 doesn't have management, it's not listed.

The terms on the main Shop page make it clear that VIVID 300 doesn't have any management.

Travelstar 17-08-2017 13:18

Re: Thinking of upgrading from VIVID 200 Gamer to VIVID 300

Click again on the 30mb and higher titles and you will see the following title:

"Name of broadband product: Fibre 20, Fibre 30, SuperFibre 50, SuperFibre 60, SuperFibre 70, VIVID 100, VIVID 120, VIVID 150, VIVID 152, VIVID 200, VIVID 300"

https://my.virginmedia.com/traffic-m...or-higher.html

This suggests it does, however I will agree that other pages suggest this is incorrect.

It also has a non-functioning link to Ofcom! ;)

BenMcr 17-08-2017 14:05

Re: Thinking of upgrading from VIVID 200 Gamer to VIVID 300

I think that's because that link includes the P2P and Newsgroup management policy, which applies to all tiers.

I'll pass back the OFCOM link thing though, not sure where that should go if OFCOM have removed their page.

From an outsider perspective, it feels a little confusing. :)

It would be nice if VM added a statement to the effect of saying "Gamer, 300 & 350 are not subject to......"

I've been on the Vivid 350 package for around a month and have hammered it. Up to now, I've not been subjected to any traffic management at any time. The test result below is after I've just completed a 38GB file transfer from and then back to a work server via ftp.

When I was on VIVID 200 I couldn't see an option on their site to upgrade to VIVID 300. When I did postcode search, VIVID 300 showed up. I rang customer service and said that postcode search showed VIVID 300. They checked and agreed that it indeed was available. Within minutes I was up and running on 300mbit. Cost was just £1 more (i.e. £46/mo to £47/mo).

Will try on Monday to go onto 350mbit profile. I hope they'll do it for free since I got a letter recently regarding a price increase of my VIVID 300 by £2.99 from 1st November.

yup, the chances are that they'll tell you the same as what they have said to me and a few others on here which is the max you can get is 300. Take it anyway because the chances are they'll put you in 350 as you can see from my screen shot.

VM are such a bunch of clowns. When I rang up to order I said VIVID 350 about 5 or 6 times and told them that I already have a Super Hub 3. I've just got an email from them saying VIVID 300 and that I have to wait for equipment to arrive.

It really winds me up that they expect you to speak to people who obviously don't have a great grasp of English.

I wouldn't blame the agents you spoke to on the automated email - agents have nothing to do with that and it's some automated system somewhere cocking up. If you have a SH3, you should get the profile - have you checked your modem config?

It's possible your old modem is still on your account somewhere, it's not meant to be possible but I seen it happen once or twice.
