Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
I have an unlocked Samsung Galaxy S3 which is currently downloading and installing Jelly Bean from Kies.
Others with unlocked phones who have been patiently waiting should connect up to Kies and give it a go. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
There have been loads of rumours (Coming soon..sorry wrong thread :-)) about the upgrade. I've got an S2 on VM mobile whether we are waiting for VM to give the go ahead or not I don't know. Checked mine today but no sign of an update yet

|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Its also available as an OTA update. I did mine today as the update notification popped up about 12.30pm today.
So far much smoother and some nice new touches like, the folders and new expanded notifications and Block mode. |

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
I guess they removed Flash, amirite?
Dealbreaker for me unfortunately. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Technically there is now no Flash on any new Android phone - unless you manage to sideload it from an APK
Adobe have removed it from the Play Store |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Is there an adobe alternative out there?
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Adobe stopped production of Flash mobile so Google decided to just remove it from the system.
However its very easy to get hold of the APK and get it working. I've already done so. Follow this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=1774336 |

Come to think of it that's the one and only reason I had for not getting JB so I might as well get on that now :) |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Got my update this morning - Vodafone.
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Flashed mine via Odin a few days ago. Quite an improvement, and Flash just stayed through the upgrade so no action needed there.
Unfortunately they've removed the wireless 2.4/5Ghz switch option, but didn't actually reset the setting, so if you've changed the setting you're stuck on whatever you had it on before the update and no way to change it back. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Checked my daughter's S3 on Kies last night, she's on VM mobile but no sign of a JB update anybody on here had the update on VM mobile?

Just in case anyone's still following this thread, 4.1.2 was released today to unlocked UK mobile phones.

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Doesn't look like us S2 users will be getting a Xmas update either according to this site

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Yeah - very irritating.
I suppose I could put the leaked rom on my s2 - but I guess I'll just be patient :) |

My alarms have been fine since the recent update. Have you tried to delete those alarms and start new ones?

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Only new feature making me want to update is the multiview, looks useful and something that will get some use.
Is there any compatibility problems with apps, like we saw with the 4.1.1 update? |

When I originally got my phone I upgraded to 4.1.1 within a week and then found some apps wouldn't work, with some later having jelly bean fixes. Put me off upgrading at the first chance. Also using TSF shell as a launcher, gotta see if there are any problems there too. Bit of a pain for me too as I am rooted, so need to figure out the cleanest way of doing the upgrade as it wont happen OTA. |

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Android really has started establishing itself these days ; makes me regret switching to the iPhone! Think i'll be heading back to Android come next March!!
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Android is certainly getting there. But on balance I think I'd rather have an iPhone 5.
Still my note 2 is ok for now. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Nothing for the S2 yet
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
At last,Jelly Bean available 'over the air'. I downloaded the software update last night and it's like having a new phone. Very slick and fast.
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Trevor what version of the S2 have you got as my GT I9100 on virgin mobile is not showing any update OTA or via KIES?
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Wish they would hurry up with the S3 4.2 update already!

The S3 has Samsung customisations. Just as HTC phones have HTC changes and Sony phones have Sony changes - so new versions of Android take longer to arrive. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available

Other brands like samsung like to customise the updates or include a few updates of their own before releasing it. Then it is down to virgin/Three/vodaphone etc to push it out to its customers ---------- Post added at 11:07 ---------- Previous post was at 11:05 ---------- Ben posted as I was typing, at least consistent information is good :) |

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
I agree with you on the Nexus 4, it is a good phone. Unfortunately, I like having a removable battery and SD card slot. Skipped the S3 as was in contract, now have an S4

It seems that there are some on Virgin Mobile but sold via Carphone Warehouse that have their own firmware version - that hasn't yet started to get the update |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Ben bought mine from VM shop in Swansea. Are you talking about the baseband version?
Got this on KIES PDA:LPT/PHONE:LQ6/CSC:LPA(CPW) |

The CPW variant of Jelly Bean hasn't been released yet. This is the listing on Sammobile for the CPW variant http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1...e=CPW#firmware |

What do you suggest Ben go back to the shop and ask for the correct handset?

Yes thanks again looks like the shops have a carphone warehouse variant which is why the upgrade to JB is delayed on my handset

Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Galaxy S3 is now getting the 4.3 update

But then at least there's the open source community, the S2 got the 4.3 update from Cyanogen already, even the original HTC Desire got updated to 4.2. |
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Has anyone with a Galaxy S3 updated to 4.3 yet? It is available OTA and through Kies but hearing lots of stories of taking a long time to unlock, battery draining fast and wifi problems. Seen enough reports to make me want to hold off a bit longer anyway.
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
My workmate has, and is getting the lock and battery issues unfortunately
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
Thanks, will defo hold off updating now. Been waiting forever for this update too.
|
Re: Samsung Galaxy S3 Jelly Bean now available
The 4.3 update has been nothing but a total PITA on my S4, and unfortunately also makes it impossible to downgrade.
|

Some developers seem to be skipping 4.3 and going straight to 4.4 on the S2. |
